Pushing the envelope for higher yields was the golden ticket for Stine dealer and grower Chris Nelson. Chris farms 2,700 acres of corn and soybeans near Holdrege, Nebraska, including 1,800 acres of Stine’s HP Corn®, which he planted through Stine’s HP Corn Planter Program.
“When I first heard about the planter program, I was all over it. I was confident in what was going on, and I knew it was the right way to go. I knew the people at Stine had something planned for the future.”
And the results were encouraging for Chris, who saw yields ranging from 240–280 bushels per acre with HP Corn in 2015.

In addition to his own success with the HP Corn Planter Program, Chris has encouraged others to join the bandwagon to higher yields. Prior to transitioning to Stine HP Twin 20s, Chris had experience with 36-inch twins. Chris was familiar with innovative plant spacing, and he knew that planting higher populations in narrow rows was the right direction to point his grower customers.
“I try to tell the guys that this new system is where the future is going to be, and it’s going to out yield the 30-inch and 36-inch rows. It’s really the way they need to look.”
Chris certainly did some convincing. With his guidance, Chris has been involved in six planter sales through Stine’s HP Corn Planter Program.
Stine DSM Rob McCarter and RSA Chad Kuehl helped Chris and his customers transition to the HP Twin 20s system — a relationship he credits as being instrumental for his farm.
“They’ve hired some good guys…I feel that dealing with Stine, it’s much more on a personal level where you’ve got a guy like Harry that says ‘Call me anytime with a problem.’ You’re not going to find that with the big boy seed dealers. This company is a big boy seed dealer, but they treat you like you’re a neighbor.”
