Like growers everywhere, Regional Sales Agronomist Jeff Anderson’s customers are making seed decisions for 2012. With next year in mind, they’re reviewing 2011 results and considering what changes might enable them to increase yields.

Jeff encourages growers to explore Stine’s LibertyLink® lineup, primarily because of its excellent weed resistance. He highly recommends the Stine® 30LC28, which is new for 2012. He notes its excellent standability and how well it performed in test plots.

Jeff’s knowledge and experience can help you create a field-by-field planting strategy for maximum yields and profits. If you are a grower in Jeff’s region, contact him with questions or to ensure you have access to the best selection from Stine’s 2012 seed catalog.

Jeff Anderson Teaching Urban Kids About Ag

March 28, 2011

Over the past several weeks, I’ve had the opportunity to speak to grade school kids about the importance of agriculture. Using educational resources provided by the CropLife Ambassador Network, I visited three classrooms in Omaha, NE to help urban children understand the effect that agriculture has on our every day lives.

I really enjoy working with the kids and I’m amused by some of the questions they ask. For example, one child assumed that I didn’t have a TV because I live on a farm. When I asked her why I wouldn’t have a TV, she replied, “Because you don’t have electricity.”

The program has really opened my eyes to the fact that many children raised right here in the Midwest have never traveled outside the city, let alone stepped foot on a farm. Fifty years ago, 4 out of 10 people farmed, and today, only 2 out of 100 farm, so it’s important to tell kids where our food comes from and spread positive messages about agriculture.

I was originally introduced to the CropLife Ambassador program by Stine Corn Product Technical Advisor Keith Campbell. He’s been involved for several years and his positive experiences inspired me, fellow agronomists Dustin Ellis and Bill Kessinger and Agronomy Director Brian Hartman to sign-up to give classroom presentations.

Teachers can simply go to a website, request a volunteer come speak to their classroom and CropLife Ambassador Network will provide the materials you need to give the presentation. The educational programs include: Farming and the Water Cycle, America’s Abundance, Careers in Agriculture, Farmers: Stewards of the Land, Feeding Planet Earth, Farm Fueled: Biofuels and Wide World of Weeds.

I’m very grateful that Stine supports my involvement with the CropLife Ambassador Network. It’s a great way to give back to the community and change misconceptions about agriculture. You can learn more about the program or become a CropLife Ambassador by visiting the program’s website.

Jeff Anderson New to Stine?

Spring just a few weeks away and some of you may still have room to add another corn hybrid or soybean bean variety to your 2011 cropping plan. With grain prices reaching record highs, every bushel you get is a huge bonus! Whether you’re a committed Stine buyer or if you have never planted Stine corn before, I recommend you try some 9806VT3PRO. I cannot say enough great things about this hybrid.  It is a “take it anywhere” type of hybrid that will perform in any soil or weather condition.  Also, this product has done very well in many third-party yield trials.

We have a very solid line-up but if you are new to Stine, I want you to give 9806VT3PRO a shot. Please feel free to contact me for soybean varieties recommendations too. The majority of the area I cover ranges from a 2.7 to a 4.2 maturity. Give me a call at 712-249-6820 and I will help you put Stine at the top of your seed choices.
