The Cost to Profit Comparison
With harvest running late this year, growers may be tempted to push off many buying decisions until the last grain trucks get to the elevators. However, delaying your seed purchase decisions could potentially wind up costing you big bucks in the long run, due to limited choices and loss of early discounts.
Seed reps and dealers have been busy visiting growers to help them make their 2012 buying decisions. With so many brands and trait options available, talking to seed reps from different companies giving out different prices can get pretty confusing and downright frustrating.
Of course, what matters most in the end is not the per unit purchase price of the seed, but the actual per acre return and net profits. That’s why Stine Seed Company’s Regional Sales Agronomists use Stine’s online profitability calculators for soybeans and corn to help growers simplify their seed buying decisions. Those calculators take some of the guesswork away when it comes to comparing Brand A to Brand B.
Growers can estimate their harvest profitability using the calculator on Stine’s website. Begin by entering a Stine brand number and up to three competitors, the price per unit and an estimated yield for each (based on trial data or on-farm results.) Then, simply enter the planting population (in number of bags planted per acre) and the estimated crop price per bushel to calculate your profitability per acre. The calculator offers a quick and easy way to determine which seed choice is best for each grower’s bottom line.
Contact your Stine Regional Sales Agronomist to determine which corn and soybean selections will increase your yield per acre and overall profitability.
