When It Comes To Soybeans, Keep The Simplicity, Lose The Resistance
As a grower, you know of the impact that proper weed control has on yield and overall profitability. With glyphosate resistant weeds on the rise in many areas, growers are turning to Stine LibertyLink® soybeans to help increase yields and maintain effective weed control.
With the ease and effectiveness of the Roundup Ready system in both corn and soybean, it’s easy to fall into the pattern of continuous glyphosate use. However, diversifying your weed control program is very important as repeated use of glyphosate can eventually lead to weed resistance. In fact, Stine agronomists are already seeing glyphosate resistance in Texas, Arkansas and as far north as Missouri, and signs of resistance as far north as Minnesota.
Stine Seed Company’s LibertyLink soybeans combine high-yielding soybean genetics with a built-in tolerance to Ignite® herbicide. The active ingredient in Ignite is glufosinate, which is completely different from glyphosate (the active ingredient in Roundup). Both are broad spectrum, non-selective herbicides. Glufosinate controls more than 120 broadleaf weeds and, best of all, to date there are no known cases of weed resistance to glufosinate.
Rotating glufosinate with glyphosate is the best weed-control option available in soybeans right now. The LibertyLink seed-herbicide system allows growers to enjoy many of the same benefits of the Roundup Ready system, such as less tillage, labor and equipment, along with the ease, convenience and efficiency of a brand new over-the-top, non-selective form of weed control. LibertyLink soybeans will provide a better option to control glyphosate resistant weeds.
